GOOD SOURCES FOR LIVE ORCHIDS
Hi All,
As you know, when we left sunny Southern California we decided to focus just on supplies and advice, and leave the raising and selling of live plants to other orchid fans.
We have, however, stayed in touch with many growers, and on this page will compile a list of sources where you can find some of the best plants around. As good as we used to grow!
The first recommendation we would like to make is for a grower in Connecticut that we've known for years...Ballado Orchids. We have know Concepcion for many years (at least 18, I think). She is experienced in growing orchids from seed, growing orchids in greenhouses or outside, and tromping around in the Jungles of Mexico and viewing them in their native habitat. She was a Moderator at the World Orchid Congress in Malaysia, and traveled and worked hand in hand with Dr. Joe Ardetti, editor of several fine books on orchids and the many phases of their culture.
She also attended, had a booth, and participated in judging at the big Japanese Grand Prix show in 1996 and 1997. She is a great speaker and has given lectures on orchids and orchid growing around the world. She is available for speaking still, contact her at her website.
The link will take you directly to page one of their catalog section, where you can see, at last count, 39 types of orchids (plus Spanish moss) for sale.
So take a look...you just might find something new to plant in all those pots you buy from us! And try some of that moss; it's great to keep the humidity up around the plants...hang it near the plants and water the moss all you want!!
