Clear See Thru Plastic Orchid Pots

4.1 Clear pots

The big difference is these are all made with no color.  They are"clear see thru plastic pots", and they have an ultra violet
inhibitor to make them last a lot longer if they get some direct sunlight. They aren't clear like glass, they are kinda opaque,
but the roots get light, and you can see right thru them! We settled on the "no slot" pots after growing in them for awhile.
When we grew in slotted clear pots in trays they all soon grew into each other until picking up one you picked them all up.
The roots went from pot to pot to pot thru the slots. We have two now that are slotted but the slots are much thinner and
we hope that will cut down on the roots geting out.
I've been using them since about 1990, watching the roots and best of all watching the watering.  There is
some talk saying the roots grow better by giving the plants light on the roots. I haven't noticed any thing from that, how
could I tell? But I DO notice my plants are growing much better, less crown rot, and roots that actually penetrate the bark
down into he pot. You will be surprised how much better you can control your watering when you don't have to worry about
the mix still might be wet, but i looks dry thing.
Many customers came to my place with dying plants, especially Phals, and wanted to know what's wrong? All swore they
did not water too much, only when the bark dried out, like now, haven't watered in a week or so. I'd say, "May I repot the
plant for you now?" "Well sure, but i doesn't need it!!" So we'd go to the potting bench and I would knock the "dry" plant
out of the pot. The top 1/3rd fo the pot was dry, the next 1/3rd pretty wet, the bottom 1/3rd sloppy and gooey wet!! You
just cannot tell this without taking the plant out and looking at the mix.

    Does this pot need water?
Take a look,,, nope, I can still see moisture in the bottom of the pot, so I don't water.

Oh Yeah! Clearly time to water.
It has really enhanced my growing.  I can tell for sure, without a doubt, whether the mix is wet.   I don't have to stick
my finger in it, I just look thru the total window and I can see all the mix on the outside of the pot nicely.  I know now exactly
when to water.  I have found after checking many pots, when I can see no moisture on the sides, there is still a tiny bit in the
middle of the mix, and that's perfect for watering. Not totally dry, but ready to be watered. This really helped with my African
Violets also. I rotted a few of those in the past!!
I have noticed lately when I am now watering better, the roots seem to move on down thru the pot better. If you keep it
too wet, the roots will generally not go down in the mix but sorta skip across the top and out over the edge.
You don't have to put every plant you have in them if you don't want to. Get a few, and place them around among your
other pots. When they need water, if the drainage is about the same, so do the others. If the clear ones still show moisture,
even though you can't see it in the other pots it is probably there. Other than being clear see thru pots, these are exactly
the same as other plastic pots.
A Little About The Process of Manufacture -
How much are they?   Almost the same as ordinary pots at the local nursery!  New prices due to pots being a petroleum
product based on the cost of oil, prices go up and down and up and up and up and down,,,,etc.. I do pay a premium for
them because of several things. The manufacturer has to stop his press line, clean all of the colored plastic out of the injection
presses, refill with clear plastic, which, has already been augmented with the UV inhibitor and restart for my production. Then,
when the run is finished the presses have to be cleaned again, and new plastic added. (That is NOT his favorite thing to do,
LOL..) I also try to wait to have a size run that is scheduled to be run in green, that way there is no special die handling.
If it wasn't for the great co-operation of the McConkey Company I could not get it done in these small amounts.
There are a number of Asian produced pots showing up now. I have one myself, the 3.00NCUV. But these do not have
any UV inhibitor added. I don't expect a problem with the 3" pot in breaking when you pick it up, but I am sure the larger
and older those pots get the more pronounced the problem will be. I am currently discussing with a Chinese Firm who has
a pot I like the design of about adding the UV inhibitor, and they first were stunned, then now are becoming helpful after looking
into the process. So we may have another later, minimum order 400,000 or something like that (we gotta talk more, LOL)
Other companies will make clear pots but there minimum purchase for each size is more that all the orchids growers in '
the whole world will ever use. There are just not that many orchid growers I!!
Algae? With this much light you are bound to grow some algae. Algae is NOT bad for the plants however. It does
make it difficult to see thru the pots. Some of the best most vigorous Cattleyas with big fat beautiful bulbs and massive root
systems were grown outside up near the shade cloth with tons of light and tons of algae in the pots. It appears it benefitted
the plants. I any algae bothers you, use a 1% solution of Clorox ,1 1/4 ounce of Clorox mixed in one gallon of water,
and run that thru the pots once in awhile whenever you feel it needs it. You can actually spray this solution all over your
plants, flowers, walks whatever, it will bother nothing but the algae. I tried it first at .05%, half strength, it bothered nothing
either, not even the algae! It will aid in the general cleanliness of your plants and growing area. I have to give credit for this
advice to George Vasquez of Zuma Canyon Orchids.

AND NOW TWO NEW PLANTERS----They are available now!!!. MADE TO LAST.

This took some doing, some pleading, some storage, some $$, a good effort by a lot of people. These are two new pots we are manufacturing for the "Clear Pot With UV Protection" collection. Both of these will grow large plants, especially orchids in the specimen sizes. Cymbidiums, Cattleyas, Phaius, Dendrobiums, Epidendrums, Oncidiums and the like will especially like the strong heavy pot to hold them upright. These will last you for years and years. Re-use them, no problem. I have had some of these kicking around for 20 or more years.

12X9NCUV - 12 inch diameter x 9 deep, heavy duty excellent sturdy pot. Because these are big and sturdy, they are a lot thicker and require a good amount of the UV inhibitor to make them last. If they were completely clear they would be very brittle, for max strength like this you can still see thru them to check the roots and look for moisture. That's a Dr Thunder bottle inside this one and you can still read the label, even clearer in real life.

Less than a case of (10) are 9.00 each.
WHOLESALE - Case 10 for $79.00 - ($7.90 each) Weight 18 pounds/case.

14X10NCUV - 14 inch diameter x 10 deep, heavy duty excellent sturdy pot., should last you a life time, good looking and sturdy and you can watch as the roots progress. Helps you know when to water, when NOT to water and when it's time to repot it will be self evident!!

Here are a couple of pictures to show you how well the large hybrid cattleyas will grow in the 14" pot.You can take them out of the pots they are in or, if the roots are hanging out of the pots and you don't want to tear them up, just put the whole plant, pot and all into the 14" pot and fill it up with bark or coco fiber chunks. You can knock a few holes in the old pot pretty easy without tearing up the roots and there will be no set-back when repotting this way. Picture 1 --------Picture 2

Less than a case of (10) are 12.00 each.
WHOLESALE - Case 10 for $93.00 - ($9.30 each) Weight 20 pounds/case.
.
Small Sampler pack, one of each of all 12 sizes, but not including the 12 inch and 14 inch, $16.50 anywhere in the
Continental U.S.A. sent Priority Mail Add $33 to add a 12" and a 14" also.

Plant Carrying Trays

4.3
Carrying Trays -
This if for those
of you who like to get your plants to the show in an upright position!!
Seems the best one you have is the most likely to tip over in
the car on the way to the show. These trays of all sorts and sizes
can prevent that. You got to roll the van to get them out of these
trays! They are especially good for those real tall plants that
tip over when you look at them hard!

#EJP312STW - 9 3/16 wide X 12 1/8 long
Here's a great little tray, $1.00 each, only measures 9" x 12" with a dozen holes for 3" and
under size pots. As you can see it has one of those tall suckers in a three inch pot, and it
also has a plant in a 2" pot contained nicely, neither will tip over in it. It is also white which
reflects all the light possible to the plant for good growing.

From here down in the list the trays are all
$2.50 each or purchase ten of them and they are $20 for the ten.
They are very light and inexpensive to ship UPS Ground. You can
get one or more of any to combination of 10 trays to get to the (10) tray price.

#JMC1020S - 10 3/4 wide X 21 1/4 long X 2 1/4 deep - Holds 3.25 perfect and others like S55 and S2.25

#DILCTS415 - 11 3/4 wide x 19 1/2 long - Holds 15 - 4" square, even down
to 3" square is ok.
#EJP66STW - 12 wide X 18 long
Upper left is kinda bright to see, but it holds 6 - 6" pots nicely. Also will carry down to a 4"
pot with out letting them tip over.
#EJP415STB - 10 5/8 wide X 21 long
For 4 1/2" round pots or anything close. Holds 15 pots snugly but will hold round pots
down to 3 1/2 nicely.
#TLC61GPT - 13 wide X 20 long x 3 deep
Holds 6 one gallon pots snugly, and also 6" azalea pots or 6" standard pots.
You can also carry anything close to that size with out tipping them over.
#EJPFONH - 10 7/8 inches wide, 21 1/4 wide and 2 1/4 deep
Picture 1---------Picture 2---------Picture 3
Here's a new tray with No Holes. You can see this has ridges in the bottom, so you don't
have to fill it with gravel or anything else if you don't like. You and put a small amount of
water to fill the grooves in the bottom for the humidity you want, then sit the plants right
on the bottom. The plants will still be above the water level.
#JMCMS558B - 21 3/4 X 11 X 2 7/8 - Picture of tray -------- Picture with Tall Plant
This tray I use for about anything heavy from 5 1/2 inch pot diameter down. It is made
specifically for use with these square 5.5 inch x 6 inch deep pots. Nothing more maddening
than to have just finished potting a bunch of tall plants and have one tip over into the rest.
Then they all go. This tray holds round one gallon pots and the "SquareOne" it is
called (Square One Gallon) just fine. You can see the heavy duty partitions in the tray
supporting the pots even tho one is very tall and off balance. That's the beauty of this tray.

PotTrayAirPic - Great plant carrying tray or
growing tray - picture of the bottom. Allows maximum
airation around plants for best growing conditions. This picture shows the different pots this flat will
hold.

The upper L/H is a square SR330 (3 1/4) then is a round 4", then round green R44, then a 2 1/2 clay pot.

Middle row left to right, 3" clay 4" color pot, 4 inch clear pot and green R4003

Bottom row green 4" thin wall, 2 1/2 net pot, green R250 and green S275

This flat is also $2.50 each or can be included in the 10 for $20 purchase.
